Guelph Gryphons @ Halton Hills Thunder
Submitted By Brad Mitchell on Monday, October 29, 2018
Looking Slick in their new Jerseys, the 2018 Peewee Select Gryphons kicked off their season Monday night with a battle in Georgetown with the Halton Hills Thunder.

The game started off high paced with some great back and forth play but it soon became apparent that the Bigger, somewhat faster Thunder were going to take their toll on our home town Gryphons.  Despite drawing 2 power plays in the 1st period, the Gryphons were unable to capitalize on the man advantage and finished the 1st period down 0-2.

The theme of the game didn't change much in the 2nd period either with the Gryphons still unable to capitalize on yet another Power Play and struggled to take away time and space from the Thunder and were soon down 0-4.
A bright note did occurred late in the 2nd period when the Gryphons took a tripping penalty and were able to successfully kill the penalty which included an exciting short handed break away by Pitts, but once again the opposing Goalie was not to be beaten.

Down 0-5 to start the 3rd Period, a fire seemed to be lit under the younger, smaller Gryphons as they managed to initiate some more exciting play, jamming up the Neutral Zone and generating a hand full of offensive chances while not backing down physically to the Thunder.

Unfortunately, the Gryphon's would be "Thunderstruck" in their inaugural game falling 0-7 to Halton Hills.
Your Guelph Gryphons will be back on the Ice Saturday Nov 3 in Acton looking to dust themselves off as they take on the Chargers.
