Gryphons Track Down the Rangers and Ground the Bombers in Weekend Action
The Gryphons had a busy weekend with an away game in Oakville on Saturday afternoon followed by a home game against the Glancaster Bombers on Sunday.

Saturday's match-up against the Oakville Rangers was a hard skating, back and forth affair with both teams trading the lead throughout the game.

The Gryphons started the game in their trademark slow style, and this time it almost caught up to them. Falling behind early in the first 2-0 and early on the second 4-1 before the offence caught fire.

Peyton Smith scored a natural hat trick in the second to tie the game up. Then Milan Wilson netted a couple to put the Gryphons ahead. They would never look back, finishing by out scoring the Ranger squad 8-6. Adding to the 8 goal attack were Peyton Markwood and  Caleb Davison. Smith ended his night with 4 goals and an assist. Goalie Lucas Jones was also credited with an assist - his first of the year!

Scoring Summary:
1.  Markwood (McNamee, Taylor)
2.  Smith (Davison)
3.  Smith (Schlitt, Davison)
4.  Smith (Duffy, Laskowski)
5.  Wilson (Beynon)
6.  Wilson (Beynon, Byard)
7.  Smith (Davison, Jones)

The Gryphons second game of the weekend was a rematch against the Glancaster Bombers. The last time these two teams met, the Gryphons came out victorious, winning the championship game of the Markham tournament 3-1. And once again Glancaster held Guelph at bay, with a final score of 2-1.

A tired Gryphon squad got off to a slow start and, despite keeping constant pressure on Glancaster, skated through the first 2 periods 0-0.

In the third period the constant pressure resulted in 3 goals. The first was a wrist shot by Owen McNamee from the slot over the blocker of the Glancaster goalie on a feed from behind the net from Oliver Fletcher. A few minutes later Glancaster tied it up. With the score 1-1 and the clock ticking down to under a minute left in play, Peyton Markwood fired a low shot along the ice from the left wall that beat the goalie who was screened on the play, Owen McNamee drew the assist.

The Gryphons return to the ice on Wednesday night in Fergus against the Centre Wellington Fusion.
