Quick Start Lifts U16BB To Victory
Two goals in the first five minutes was the difference as the Guelph Gryphon U16 BB's defeated the Woolwich Wildcats 5-2 on Saturday afternoon.
The Gryphons got the jump on the Wildcats 2:59 into the contest when Sam MacIntyre walked out of the corner and spotted a wide open Owen McNamee off to the side of the net. McNamee then faked shot and slid the puck cross crease to a wide open Braedan Bunnaman who deposited the it into the empty net for a 1-0 Gryphon lead. The Gryphons added to their lead just 39 seconds later when Ridge Thibodeau entered the Woolwich zone and dropped the puck back to Milan Wilson. Wilson ripped a shot on net that was stopped but Thibodeau crashed the net for the rebound and slammed home the loose puck for a 2-0 lead. 10:34 into the period, Chase Roffel lofted a shot from the point that found the top corner of the net for his fourth goal in five games and padded Guelph's lead to 3-0. Jackson Byard and Harrison Redford assisted on the play. However, Woolwich tallied with one minute remaining in the period to make score 3-1 after one period of play.
Guelph scored the lone goal of the second period with 47 seconds remaining when Peyton Smith fed Caleb Davison with a gorgeous pass into the high slot and Davison buried it for a 4-1 lead. Josh Eikelboom also assisted on the play.
Woolwich closed the gap to 4-2 with ten minutes left but three minutes later while on the powerplay, Milan Wilson took a pass from Davison and danced into the slot before ripping a shot far side for the fifth goal for the Gryphons.
Marshall Cline picked up the win between the pipes.
Guelph (10-1-1) currently sit in top spot of the Tri County Harrison division and now have a week off before travelling to Oakville next Saturday to take on the Rangers.
