U16 BB Finalists At Oakville Winter Classic
The U16BB advanced undefeated the finals at the Oakville Winter Classic this past weekend before falling to the Waterloo Wolves 3-2.
On opening day Friday, Marshall Cline backstopped the Gryphons to two shut out victories as they defeated the CW Fusion 4-0 and the Woolwich Wildcats 2-0.
On Saturday, Guelph continued to roll with a 5-1 victory over the North Durham Warriors. The round robin portion of the tournament ended Saturday night with a 1-1 draw against the Oakville Rangers, giving Guelph the #1 seed heading into the playoff round.
In the semi finals, the Gryphons once again faced off against the Oakville Rangers. Paced by a Caleb Davison hat trick, the Gryphons advanced to the final with a 5-3 victory.
In the finals, a back and forth battle saw the Gryphons on the wrong side of a 3-2 score against the Waterloo Wolves. Cole McQueen was named game MVP.
With tournament play now behind them for another season, the Gryphons return to league action this Saturday when they host the Garden City Falcons.
