U8 Advanced Development Program (ADP) Player Evaluations

Guelph Minor Hockey's programming at the U8 age group (2016 birth year) is broken up into 2 available options - Skill Development 3 and Advanced Development (ADP).

ADP is the "high frequency" option, combining additional ice-time with professional skills coaches to offer accelerated development for young players. The commitment includes 3 weekly practices and 1 weekly game (sometimes 2 once league play begins), as well as an additional “ADP Fee” that covers the additional associated costs.

To participate in U8 ADP, players must register for ADP Evaluations and be selected for one of the 2 teams (36 players total). While roster size limits the number of spaces available on ADP teams, it is important for all players to be able to access their desired level of skill development. To support this important concept, players not selected for an ADP team will have the option to access additional skill development for a fee. (See info on U8 Hockey Options.)

Preparation Skates, Evaluation Skates, and Goalie Sessions

Preparation Skates - 4 practices to be held between September 9th and 16th. These skates are to help players get back on the ice and 'prepare' for the evaluation skates. No evaluations will take place during these skates. (September 9th through 16th.)

Evaluation Skates - 4 evaluation sessions held between September 17th and 27th. Players will be evaluated and selected for teams by GMHA skills development coaches. (September 17th through 27th.)

Goalie Sessions - 2 sessions of introductory goalie instruction for any and all players who are interested in pursuing the goalie position. Equipment and instruction will be provided. Players are encouraged to try the goalie position and consider the option of being evaluated for a goalie position in the ADP program! (September 11th and 15th.)

Specific tryout times and groups will be communicated once registration numbers are finalized.

Pricing for Preparation and Evaluation Skates (includes all 8 sessions):

Up to August 22nd (Early Bird) - $160

After August 22nd - $200

Understanding U8 Hockey

As you will note, the Advanced Development Program is an accelerated development program that provides interested players and families with a higher-frequency option for hockey.

GMHA hosted an information session on August 16th to provide information about the program and what it has to offer.
