U15 Gryphons End 2023 on a High!
The U15 Guelph Gryphons took to the ice on Friday night for a rematch against the Cambridge Hawks and fought to a well earned win.
The Gryphons came out of the gate a bit slower than usual to start the first, unable to find their systems and play their game, spotting Cambridge a 1-0 lead to end the first period.
Starting from behind to enter the second period was the wake-up call the boys needed with lightning Lever finding his game and the back of the net off a rebound from a Hanna point shot to bring the game to tie and start a dominant period of offensive zone possession and pressure. Williams shook the monkey off his back with a beautiful single handed effort to put the Gryphons ahead and nail down a dominant second period before heading into the third.
Lever, rolling on a wave of confidence found the net again in the third on a beautiful feed from Howden to build on the lead for the team. Cambridge found its legs and battled hard to get back in the game but Parker, playing one of his best games of the season found the net unassisted to put the game away at 4-1. A late bench minor for two many men allowed a momentary opportunity for Cambridge to gain possession in our zone and capitalize on the man advantage after a defensive miscue.
The boys left the ice with a well earned 4-2 victory over the Hawks and head into the break with an 8-2 record in regular season play and facing a lighter January ahead.
