The Guelph Gryphon U16 A's travelled to Montreal this week-end to participate in the Canada Cup 2 Tournament. With the anticipation of some good competition and some fun, the team was not disappointed.
The Gryph's came out flying and were able to secure 3 wins and 1 loss through round robin play by executing a relentless forecheck and good puck movement. With their record they were able to move on directly to the Championship Final on Sunday against the Saint Thomas Stars.
In the Championship, the Gryph’s continued to focus on a determined and aggressive forecheck and continued to outshoot their opponent as they had throughout the tournament. Unfortunately, despite outshooting their opponent, do to sum bad puck luck the Gryph’s fell 0-3 to the Stars. Although they did not bring home the gold, these players competed hard in all five games, representing the Gryphon jersey with pride, class and sportsmanship. The competition in this tournament was strong and the team should be very proud of their Silver Medals.
Big congrats to Max Lambert who was our lone goalie this week-end and who just continued to get better as each game passed, culminating with him often standing on his head in the championship game.
The Team would like to thank Peyton Smith and his family who came up from U16BB’s and drove all the way to Montreal to help the team out as we were short players.
Last but definitely not least, the Team would like to recognize and thank Megan P., our manager, for her tireless work keeping the team organized, supported and always updated on anything the team needed to know. Thank you, for all you do!
The coaches and I are very proud of this group and look forward to building on all the progress & development the team made throughout the tournament this week-end. - Coach Dom
