Novice Selects Semi Finalists At Fusion Fall Frenzy
The Guelph Gryphon Novice Selects ran into some tough competition on the final day of the Centre Wellington Fusion Fall Frenzy on Sunday.   In the tournament semi finals, the Gryphons ran into a highly skilled Whitby Wildcats squad and their inexperience showed in a 6-0 loss that eliminated the Gryphs from the tournament.

In the Gryphons first game of the day, they faced the Kingston Jr Canadians in a contest to decide 1st place in Divsion B.  Despite controlling the play for large portions of the game,  the Gryphons were stymied by fantastic goaltending by Kingston's Logan Murphy.  Guelph was turned aside time and time again on route to a 5-1 loss.  The score did not indicate how close the game was as Kingston took advantage of all their scoring opportunities.  Nathan Bowman was finally able to light the lamp 1:41 into the third period but it was not enough to kick off a comeback.

The Frenzy Player of the Game was Chace Roffel how played outstanding defense and stopped countless Kingston rushes.  The Shoeless Joe's Player of the Game was goaltender Max Heroux who was outstanding between the pipes.

The loss to Kingston set up a semi final match up with the undefeated Whitby Wildcats.   Whitby dominated the game from the drop of the puck and were well deserving of their 6-0 victory.  The Gryphs were worn down by Whitby's strong skating and positional play.

The Frenzy Player of the Game was Connor Laskowski, who played his left wing position smartly and skated hard the entire weekend.

Overall, it was an excellent tournament for the Gryphon squad and being able to play teams as talented as Kingston and Whitby was an excellent experience for the team and gives them something to work towards.

The Gryphons return to game action next Saturday when they host the Halton Hills Thunder.
