Atom, 2017-2018, U9 (Guelph Minor Hockey Association)

With only 1 game now remaining in their SCTA regular season, the Atom AAA Gryphs have peeled off an impressive few weeks of hockey.   

This week in SCTA action, the Guelph Jr Gryphon Atom AAA squad played host to the Burlington Eagles. After a sluggish start to the game in which the Eagles capitalized to take an early 1-0 lead, the Gryphs managed to tie the match on a Burlington giveaway in the Eagles end as Brady Smith finished off the play on an  assist from Owen Power. 

Last week the Atom AAA Gryphons played the Oakville Rangers in a home-and-home mini-series during SCTA league play. Game 1 was in Oakville on the 11th and the visiting Gryphs were not an easy visiting opponent. After being outplayed to start the contest, it was the Gryphs who struck first on a snipe from Sam Black. Alex Rossi grabbed the assist. The Rangers scored next to tie the match but a minute after that Alex Rossi scored for the Gryphs, on a pass from Black, to take a 2-1 lead into the 2nd. On Saturday December 16, 2017 the atom AAA Gryphons provided a donation of $500 to the Guelph Wellington chapter of the Children's Foundation and 'Free to Play', a special organization that provides financial assistance to children in need so that they can participate in sports, arts and camps. The money raised for the donation was earned through the boy's bottle drive that took place earlier in the season!   

After coming off a respectable weekend at the Hamilton Jr Bulldogs tourney, the atom AAA Gryphs traveled to Burlington Wednesday night and skated away with a 1-1 tie against the hometown Eagles. Brady Smith opened the scoring in the second period on a twister wrister over the shoulder of the Eagles tender. The helper went to Hunter Solomon. The Gryphs continued to apply pressure in an attempt to widen the goal margin, however it was the Eagles who struck next before the second period was over. 

The Atom AAA Gryphs played in the Hamilton Jr Bulldogs Backspin Classic Tournament this past weekend. After a first game loss to the host Bulldogs 4-2 on friday morning, the Gryphs responded with 3 straight round-robin victories to move them into a semi-final match against  the Waterloo Wolves on sunday!
