Atom AAA Update - Double-up on Burlington
This week in SCTA action, the Guelph Jr Gryphon Atom AAA squad played host to the Burlington Eagles. After a sluggish start to the game in which the Eagles capitalized to take an early 1-0 lead, the Gryphs managed to tie the match on a Burlington giveaway in the Eagles end as Brady Smith finished off the play on an  assist from Owen Power.

Early in the second frame, Smith again capitalized on a play that allowed him to rip a rocket bardown past the Eagles netminder. The assist went to Hunter Solomon. Later in the frame, Nathan Briggs was sent on a 1 on 1, off a neutral zone pass from Trenton Harris, and Briggs made no mistake beating the defenseman and directing the puck top shelf to give the local squad a 3-1 lead heading into the 3rd period.
Sam Savery then finished off the Gryphs scoring just over 5 minutes into the third as he buried the loose puck behind the Burlington tender to increase the spread to 4-1. Briggs and Harris drew assists.
Burlington scored a goal later in the third on the PP, but the strong play of the Gryphs to the final buzzer gave the team a well-deserved 4-2 win. The defense core of Nathan Boyle, Nolan Chabot, Vincent Piccone, Nathan Bakker, Jacob Middleton and Hunter Solomon were strong in the effort in front of another solid outing from goalie Ethan Lawrence.
The Jr. Gryphs final game before the break is Saturday at Niagara North.
