Strong Start for Novice Gryphons
The Novice AA Gryphons are off and running to start their 2017-18 season. The Gryphons played host to their highway 7 rivals from Kitchener on Saturday afternoon, earning a 3 – 1 decision.

Greg F tallied twice for the Gryphons while Gage T struck for the other. Ryan M impressed with his slick passing and great decision-making on the Gryphon backend, while Evan P packed on impressive punch with some solid physical play and puck movement.

On Monday, Kitchener returned the favour by hosting the Gryphons for an evening affair. Guelph’s Colin C tallied early as the Gryphons took control of the game and never looked back. Nicco S had 2 markers while Gage T and Lucas S each found the sheet with singles of their own as the Gryphons earned a decisive 5 – 0 result. The Gryphon defense continued to impress, led by Parker W and Tyson D whose unselfish, “defense-first” style of play was a major contributing factor to the victory. Not to be outdone, Gryphon goaltenders Tyson MB and Finn P were solid, answering all challenges and earning the shutout.

The Gryphon coaching staff recognized Nicco S and Avery S as recipients of the prestigious “Lead Dog Award” emblematic of the players who best combine great leadership through hard work, a high level of skill and unselfish play. Congratulations boys.

The Gryphons hope to keep the momentum going into the weekend as they will be travelling to Ottawa to participate in the Capital Gold Rush Tournament.
