Gold Medal Game! Guelph Gryphons at Char-Lan Rebels
This GOLD MEDAL game started with both teams fighting for the puck and skating hard to gain territory in the opposition end. The Gryphons did a good job of mostly keeping shots on Parker to the outside when the Rebels were in their zone, and pushing the puck up the ice into the Rebels end, but shots on net were few and far between for the Gryphons in the first half of the game, with the first noticeable one coming well into the second from outside the blue line. Soon after, however, Nolan B took a nice low, hard shot from the point, which tipped off a Rebel skate and redirected past the unlucky keeper. 1-0 Guelph. Back down the other end, just after Nolan's goal, Parker made two huge saves to keep the momentum on Guelph’s side. That fired up the Gryphons who really started to put the pressure on the Rebels, carrying the momentum into the third period with the 1-0 lead. Well into the period, as everyone was biting their nails, Olin hustled hard inside the Rebels blue line to keep the puck in, tapped it over to Nolan S who made no mistake in firing past the keeper to make it 2-0 Guelph.
With about 30 seconds to go in the game, Parker made another couple of great saves on a 6-man Rebels team, the puck popped out to Seba, who touched it up to Max, inside the Gryphons blue line, and he fired a long-distance puck right into the centre of the keeper-less Rebel’s net to cement the win. 3-0 and a Gold Medal for the Gryphs!
We’re all proud of the effort and class of the team in this tournament, and thankful to the coaches and support who made it happen, including the Habs game, hotels, fun, and of course the games.
