U16 AAs are back to back tournament CHAMPS!
Coming off the Regional Silver Stick championship weekend the U16 AA Guelph Gryphons headed into the Paul Coffee International Tournament on a high.
Game 1 the boys didn't come out with the energy they expected but still managed to get the W 2-1 vs Niagara Falls Flyers.
In game 2 the boys came to play and took it to their Hwy 6 rivals Flamborough Sabres. Scoring early and often the Gryphons didn't back down and took the 6-1 W.
The U16 AA Gryphons aren't great in morning games and came out with a lack of energy similar to game 1. Finally playing a team that's not from their own league the Gryphs would take Streetsville Tigers down with a 3-1 W.
With a spot in the semis already clinched the Gryphons came out to battle for the top spot in the tournament vs GMHA rival Oakville Rangers (Red). The boys pumped shot after shot against the Rangers goalie but he would turn them away over and over. Once we finally got 1 through it was all on our defence and goalie. The Gryphons would all do their jobs and took the top spot with a 1-0 W.
The semi final game was against the Ajax-Pickering Raiders. This game had back and forth action by both teams. Nice goals, big saves, and a few hits! With just over a minute and a half left in the game the Gryphs would break the tie. Holding onto the lead late they booked their spot in the finals with a 5-4 W.
Oakville would take the other semi final W and try to get redemption for their earlier lose to the Gryphons. However, the Gryphs came to take it all and would control majority of the game. Putting as much on net as they could they would beat the Rangers goalie 4 times while allowing none! With the final buzzer going, the U16 AA Guelph Gryphons would be champions again with a 4-0 W!
