The Guelph Gryphon Minor Peewee AA hosted the
Burlington Eagles Gold on Saturday night.
After falling behind early, the Gryphons were unable to come back and
Burlington prevailed with a 3-1 victory.
Burlington
got on the board on the power play just 2:23 into the contest. Another Eagle’s goal with 2:32 left in the
frame put the Gryphons down 2-0 after one period of play.
Four
power plays for Guelph in the second period gave the Gryphons numerous chances
to close the gap but despite generating many shots, they were unable to light
the lamp and the second period ended with the score remaining 2-0 in favor of
the Eagles.
Guelph
finally got on the board with 3:03 remaining in the third. Koen Smith charged out the Burlington defense
to block a shot and rewarded himself with a breakaway. Although Smith stumbled as he closed in on
the Burlington netminder, he managed to put the puck, himself, and the Eagles
goalie all into the net to close the gap to 2-1. However a minute later, the Gryphons failed
to get the puck out of their own zone and Burlington made them pay with an
insurance marker to make the final 3-1.
The
Gryphons return to action on Monday night when they host the Oakville Rangers
Blue.
