Atom AE Victorious In OMHA Game 2
The Guelph Atom AE Gryphons travelled to Elmira on Saturday afternoon in Game 2 of their OMHA Qualifying Round Robin.   In a close match, the Gryphons scored two late goals to emerge with a 4-2 victory.

The Gryphons broke out quickly as they were full of energy after a ten day rest.   3:34 into the contest Milan Wilson banged home a rebound off of a scramble in front to get Guelph on the board.  Caleb Davison drew an assist on the play but credit also goes to hustling Connor Laskowski for forcing the turnover in the neutral zone that ultimately led to the goal.  44 seconds later Guelph added to their lead as Nolan Lodder forced the play with hard forechecking and came around the goal for a wraparound into the empty cage.  Kai Stone and Peyton Markwood assisted on the play.  Guelph took a 2-0 lead into the first intermission.

Woolwich got on the board 2:20 into the second as some sloppy defensive coverage allowed the Wildcats to control the puck and bang home a rebound to make the score 2-1.  Guelph desperately clung to their one goal lead after two periods of play.

Woolwich outhustled the Gryphons to open the third and were rewarded with a game tying goal with 9:24 remaining in regulation time.   However, Guelph potted the game winner with 5:35 remaining in the game. Defenseman Peter Schlitt broke up a play at the Guelph blueline and snowshoed up the ice towards the Woolwich zone.   With forward Connor Laskowski playing lead blocker and holding up the Woolwich defenseman, Schlitt broke in free and ripped a wrist shot thru the goalies five hole.  With 2:08 remaining,  Milan Wilson added some much needed insurance in combination with his linemates Connor Laskowski and Caleb Davision.

Fraser Litchfield picked up the win in the Guelph nets.

Guelph (2-0-0) currently sit 2nd in round robin standings and will travel to Ancaster on Monday evening for Game 3 of their round robin.
