The
Gryphon Atom AE’s travelled to Ancaster on Saturday afternoon to conclude their
OMHA round robin series. With first
place wrapped up, the Gryphons delivered an uninspired performance and fell to
the Avalanche 3-2.
Ancaster
scored once in the first and once in the second to take a 2-0 lead into the
intermission.
The
dagger for the Gryphons came when Ancaster won the draw to open the third
period and walked right down the ice to make the score 3-0 just eight seconds into the third period. Guelph did make a game of out as Peyton Smith
scored while killing a penalty with 5:53 remaining. Milan Wilson then brought the Gryphs within
one with 1:45 remaining but that was as close as Guelph would get as Ancaster celebrated
its 3-2 victory. Despite a healthy
advantage in shots, Guelph was unable
to crack the stellar netminding of the Ancaster goalie.
The
Gryphons now must wait for their opponent to be determined for the OMHA Quarter
Finals to start in a week’s time.
