Guelph Sr and Jr. Gryphons Team in Notre Dame
The Guelph Minor Bantam Gryphons AE hockey team visit the University of Guelph Gryphons exhibition game against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in South Bend Indiana
The Minor Bantam AE team were all scheduled to go to Indiana from October 3rd to October 6th and play in the South Bend Tournament in the Compton Family Arena located at the famous Notre Dame University, home of the Fighting Irish.
The coaching and management staff got together for a meeting to set up all the details and determine what we could do as a group when we got there. It would have been great to arrange for the families to attend a Fighting Irish football game, but trying to get 1 ticket, let alone 50, would have been impossible. Besides, the ND Fighting Irish were on the road during the weekend Guelph was scheduled to go.
General Manager, Jeff Laplaunte, decided to see if the Fighting Irish hockey team was in town. According to their schedule they were. And according to the schedule, they were going to play the University of Guelph Gryphons hockey team!?!?!
The irony of the University team and the Minor Bantam AE team being in South Bend Indiana at the same time, was enough to touch base with U of G, Head Coach, Shawn Camp, to determine if we could support each other while we were there. Shawn was more than accommodating in ensuring both of our teams would get together in South Bend.
With the help of Kevin & Angie Ritchie, and headed by both head coaches, Charlie Clattenburg and Shawn Camp, we were able to obtain tickets for the Gryphons vs. Notre Dame game on Sunday October 6th at 5 pm.
Prior to the U of G Gryphon game, Shawn arranged to have members of the Minor Bantam AE team visit the dressing room for a few words of wisdom and pictures. Memories for years to come...
