Gryphons Douse the Devils
Submitted By Tim Davison on Saturday, September 28, 2019
Saturday evening the Minor PeeWee AE Gryphons traveled to Erin-Hillsburgh to play the first in a home and home weekend series and skated away with a 12-0 victory.

Despite the lop-sided outcome, the game started off as a very close checking affair. The Devils came out flying and created several scoring opportunities in the first few shifts. It was only the outstanding goaltending of Lucas Jones that kept the game scoreless through the first period.  Jones would go on to earn a shutout in the game.

The second period would be a different story and the difference in the game. The relentless Gryphons attack finally paid off with the tired Devil squad giving up 10 goals. The third period returned to a close checking affair with the Gryphons netting a pair of goals.

Leading way offensively were Peyton Markwood and Jackson Byard for the forwards, each with 4 points, and Cian Duffy with a three point night from the point.

Scoring Summary:

1. Peyton Markwood (McNamee)
2. Cian Duffy (Smith, Wilson)
3. Duffy (Beynon)
4. Markwood (Taylor, McNamee)
5. Jackson Byard (Wilson)
6. Markwood (unassisted)
7. Byard (Beynon)
8. Markwood (Taylor)
9. McNamee (Duffy, Taylor)
10. Beynon (Byard)
11. Byard (unassisted)
12. Wilson (unassisted)

The Gryphons and Devils return to the ice on Sunday afternoon in Guelph, to complete the home and home series.
